Tracking my trails
Some places I've been to in these Covid years...

I'm starting to come out of my Covid-related shell, and spent some time with students around Penang. It was fun! See my Instagram page, tag

There have been the usual load of conferences, of course. This one shows Francis Loh presenting a keynote at the MASSA (Malaysia & Singapore Society of Australia) Symposium 2023, held at New Era University College in Kajang, Malaysia, on 7 July 2023. My first "live" conference since Covid began. Others have been on Zoom.

Last year (2022) I was a Fulbright fellow at the Yale School of Environment, Yale University, for five months. If I'm not mistaken, that was the first trip I took out of Malaysia during the Covid lockdown.

Batek friends, like ʔeyMantɔr here, have visited Penang. Sometimes I miss them and want to be around them all the time. I can't always go to the field (the trip alone can be about 7 hours long one-way), so I invite them to come here.

And I have visited the Batek, frequently. We study gibbons. This photo shows my "dual accommodation" in the field — a nice tent, and a lean-to (which I helped to build)

And I'm starting now to seek out friends, live, in all their humanity. It's not good to stay home all the time. This photo is of Bion Griffin's study in Baguio, the Philippines, which I visited in July 2023.
